Functional Nutrition Counseling with Ashley Serveta, FNC, CHHP

As a Functional Nutrition Counselor and Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, I offer one-on-one support by taking a personalized and comprehensive approach to assist you in identifying and addressing the underlying cause(s) behind your health and wellness concerns.

In Functional Nutrition, all things matter. Together, in counseling, we’ll take into account multiple factors like your health history and genetics as well as epigenetic factors, environment, relationships, diet, lifestyle, stress, sleep, hormones, allergies, gut health and more.

This is the main difference you will find with Holistic health. While the Conventional approach focuses on managing the signs or symptoms, viewing things from a holistic lens allows us to ask why the sign or symptom is occurring in the first place. By taking this route, we can naturally assist in clearing, calming and restoring the function of the body's systems.

Taking the time to delve deeper and allow the individual to feel heard is a critical piece of the puzzle that is currently lacking in conventional healthcare practices. Why is this so often the case? Unfortunately, doctors are overwhelmed. They see so many patients each day and simply do not have the time it truly takes to dedicate themselves to each patient. And so, the standard practice is to diagnose and manage the symptom(s), instead of finding the underlying cause(s).

My goal is to help fill that gap between patient and doctor. And while I do provide comprehensive functional lab testing as a helpful tool and guide, it’s important to not get stuck or fixated on the sign, symptom or diagnosis. Rather, consider the causative factors, the simple, natural, dietary and lifestyle improvements that are within your control. Most importantly, remember that each of us are on our own path to healing. This means what's causing your sign, symptom or diagnosis could be a very different reason for someone else.

Please remember, there is no “magic pill”, there is no “one-size-fits-all” diet or protocol. Your situation is just as unique as you are and your timeline to feeling better can and will differ from someone else’s. If you’re reading this and feel that taking this individualized, natural and holistic route can assist you on your journey to healing, I would love to hear from you!  Please click on the Getting To Know You Survey to contact me. Once I receive and review it, I will be in touch.

Functional Nutrition:
The Breakdown

Functional Nutrition Counseling is an individualized, holistic approach to health that offers support in identifying and addressing the underlying root causes of health and wellness concerns rather than just managing symptoms.

It considers various aspects that play a role in an individual's life, how they contribute to overall well-being, and then aims to clear, calm and optimize the proper functioning of these systems.

Individualized Approach: It recognizes that each person is unique, and their health concerns may have different underlying causes. Functional Nutrition Counseling works to understand an individual's specific health history, genetics, lifestyle, and dietary habits to create a personalized plan.

Holistic Perspective: It considers the whole person, including physical, mental, and emotional aspects of health. This approach aims to balance and optimize overall well-being rather than just treating isolated symptoms.

Root Cause Analysis: Functional Nutrition Counselors seek to identify the root causes of health issues, which may include dietary imbalances, food sensitivities, inflammation, gut health, hormonal imbalances, and lifestyle factors.

Prevention and Wellness: While it can address existing health concerns, Functional Nutrition Counseling also emphasizes preventive measures to maintain good health and prevent future issues.

Nutrient-Dense Diet: It promotes the consumption of nutrient-dense, whole foods that provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to support the body's natural healing processes.

Lifestyle Modifications: In addition to dietary changes, it may recommend lifestyle modifications such as stress management, exercise, sleep improvement, and reducing environmental toxins.

Education and Empowerment: Functional Nutrition Counselors educate clients about their health conditions and empower them with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their diet and lifestyle.

Collaborative Approach: It often involves collaboration with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians and holistic practitioners, to provide a comprehensive and integrative approach to healthcare.

Functional Nutrition Counseling is particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with chronic health issues, autoimmune disorders, digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, and other conditions where conventional medicine may not provide satisfactory answers or long-term solutions. It aims to promote optimal health and well-being by addressing the root causes of health concerns and supporting the body's natural ability to heal.

Stone Steps

What's the step-by-step process?

Step 1: Fill out the Get To Know You Survey and Submit!

Step 2: Once received, your submission will be reviewed and Ashley will call you at the number you provided for a brief 15-20 minute phone call to get some of your questions answered and to determine if you would be a good fit for each other.

Step 3: If it's a YES, you will then be provided with pricing options along with the comprehensive Intake Form. You will fill out the Intake Form and return it to Ashley.

Step 4: Ashley will thoroughly review the comprehensive Intake Form and create notes to address anything further that she may need during your first scheduled counseling session. She will then contact you to set up your first counseling session.

Step 5: The first counseling session (1-Hour) is dedicated to creating a Health History Timeline based on the information Ashley gathered during the session and from the Intake Form. The intention of this first session is not to make any recommendations. Rather, this session is to delve deep into your particular case to get a comprehensive understanding of what areas may need more attention in order to map out the next steps.

Step 6: After the first counseling session, Ashley will take time to map out and complete a Matrix based on the information gathered from the session. Once complete, Ashley will be contacting you to schedule your Second Session.

Step 7: The second session (1-Hour) will discuss your challenges, Ashley's recommendations and next steps. This session ends the Premier Case Review (PCR) offering. If appropriate, you will be invited to continue working with Ashley via a counseling package or individual counseling sessions.

Step 8: Ashley will create and deliver a personalized Action Form along with the offer of any next steps.
